HK chief critical of tourism industry
Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said yesterday that the tourism industry should practice self-discipline.
His remarks follow the death of a Chinese mainland tourist said to have been attacked while trying to mediate in a shopping dispute.
The government expressed its grave concern over the incident, Leung said during a Legislative Council question-and-answer session.
Leung said the incident and recent protests against mainland tourists and parallel traders, have had a negative impact on Hong Kong’s reputation. He noted many problems in the travel industry over the years, including “forced shopping” and inflated prices.
