HK jails 3 mainlanders for taking exam for clients

A Hong Kong court sentenced three mainland university students to 10 months behind the bars for using fake identifications to take the TOEFL test for others in a local examination center.

The three students, aged 23 and 24, all majored in English translation in a renowned university in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province and were hired to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language in Hong Kong for three clients.

An unnamed middle man promised to pay each of them 2,000 yuan (US$317) if they scored higher than 80, Sing Tao Daily reported today.

Their crime was unveiled when they went to take the test in the Lai King Assessment Center of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority on Saturday.

A foreign examiner noticed the photos on their passports didn't match their faces and called the police, the report said.

According to the Hong Kong law, any one who forges identification documents can face up to 14 years in prison if convicted.
