HK population increases 0.6%
Hong Kong’s population had increased 42,300 or 0.6 percent to 7,264,100 at the end of 2014, from 7,221,800 at the end of 2013, according to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government yesterday.
The natural increase of the population — obtained by subtracting the number of deaths from the number of births — from end-2013 to end-2014 amounted to 17,500.
Births and inflow of one-way permit holders — which allow residents of China’s mainland to settle permanently in Hong Kong — were important constituents of overall population growth. The number of births from end-2013 to end-2014 was 62,300 and the inflow of one-way permit holders was 40,500.
During this period, the number of deaths was 44,800,
