HK to assess vaccine
ABOUT 15 percent of Hong Kong people have acquired immunity to the influenza A/H1N1 without vaccination, according to research findings released yesterday.
The results of research by the University of Hong Kong will be helpful when a committee of the HKSAR government reviews vaccination policies next week, Under Secretary for Food and Health Gabriel Leung said.
Including those who have received vaccinations, an estimated 1.2 million people in Hong Kong currently had immunity to the new flu, Leung said.
Statistics released on Friday by local health authorities showed close to 136,000 people in Hong Hong had received subsidized vaccinations against the new flu.
Hong Kong has a total population of about 7 million.
The number of people being vaccinated each day in the HKSAR has been recently falling, Leung said.
However she said that health authorities still have to remain vigilant and prepare for any possible deterioration in the future.
