HK visitor scheme to be revised
THE individual visitor scheme for people traveling from the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong will be adjusted as necessary, Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng said yesterday.
As the number of visitors to Hong Kong continues to rise, new situations and problems have arisen, he said.
“All cities have limits on tourist numbers in terms of services, hospitality capability and infrastructure. This is determined by the city’s commitment to the input of hospitality capability,” he said.
The central government is “most concerned” with the problems, and has been in close touch with authorities in Hong Kong, but Gao said he doesn’t think they will affect people-to-people exchanges or cooperation on trade.
