HK's new cigarette limits for visitors
STARTING Sunday, adult visitors to Hong Kong are allowed to take no more than 19 cigarettes to the territory as a new taxation rule takes effect next month.
Meanwhile, visitors aged over 18 years old are allowed to take along one cigar or cigar no heavier than 25 grams, Hong Kong cautioned yesterday.
Those breaching the rule will be fined up to HK$1 million (US$128,748) or a maximum jail term of two years, according to the new rule.
Hong Kong banned all smoking in public smoking in January 2007, first enacted in 1982 with several amendments subsequently.
The latest amendment extends the smoking ban to indoor workplaces, most public places including restaurants, Internet cafes, public lavatories, beaches and most public parks.
