Hailstorms havoc
HAILSTORMS have battered parts of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region since Saturday, leaving one person dead and more than 2,000 hectares of crops destroyed.
The Civil Affairs Department of Guangxi said 96,000 residents have been affected. Nearly 70 houses had collapsed and 1,716 were badly damaged.
Weather officials issued a red alert for heavy rain at 1:15pm yesterday. In some parts of worst-hit Cenxi City, rainfall had reached above 10 centimeters over three hours and was continuing to rise.
The heavy rain and hail is forecast to continue today.
