Hainan tour guide denies no-pay-no-key allegation
HAINAN Province authorities are probing into online allegations that a local tour guide forced visitors from Shandong Province to pay additional 1,000 yuan (US$158.8) to get their hotel room keys.
One tourist in the group, surnamed Zheng, posted a video footage that showed the tour guide, Yang Min, telling the 32-people group "no pay, no keys" and left 15 tourists sitting in the hotel lobby in Sanya City for hours.
Zheng also accused Yang of taking them to shopping malls all the time instead of visiting tourist attractions during their Spring Festival tour, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
But initial investigation showed the scandal took place in Wanning City instead of Sanya City, said Li Xiaorong, who heads the investigation team.
Yang has denied the accusations, saying he led tourists who paid 1,000 yuan to see a show and left 15 others to wait in the hotel for a while. He was back in about 30 minutes and immediately handed the keys to them, the report said.
Yang also said he only recommended the tourists to buy some Hainan specialties and did not force them to go to shops.
The investigation is still ongoing, Xinhua said.
