Hairdresser cheats jailed

FOUR hairdressers in central China yesterday were found guilty of forcing two female students to pay more than 6,000 yuan (US$880) on hair and beauty services a year ago. They were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 14 to 18 months.

Ye Jianwen, owner of the Paul International Beauty Salon in Zhengzhou City, capital of Henan Province, was sentenced to 18 months by the Erqi District People's Court in Zhengzhou. The court also fined him 5,000 yuan, China News Service reported yesterday.

Three other salon workers, including manager Jin Xiao°?ying, were also imprisoned and fined for their roles. They can all appeal to a higher court.

The court found Jin encouraged two hairdressers, Cheng Yong and Du Haifei, to convince vocational school students Zhang Yi and Yuan Shasha to have additional hair and beauty services on top of the hair services they ordered when they visited Ye's beauty salon on March 29 last year.

Ye then demanded Zhang and Yuan pay 7,000 yuan for the services and asked them to apply for a membership deposit card for 9,800 yuan.

They held the students in the salon until they could borrow money to pay the bill. By 10pm they paid 6,013 yuan.

They later called police.

Jin, Cheng and Du were seized at the salon on April 9 while Ye was caught in Haikou, capital of Hainan Province, on April 30.
