Hammered boss faces bribery probe

A SENIOR district official in south China's Guangdong Province is being investigated for bribery after he attacked his boss by a hammer.

Gao Daming, 45, vice director Maogang District Civil Affairs Bureau in Maoming City, chased his superior, Liang Ritian, 44, the bureau director, and hit the latter on the head with a hammer after a fierce quarrel on June 18, today's Guangzhou Daily reported.

He even followed Liang into a private car outside the office to attack him. Liang suffered minor injuries that needed three stitches, the report said.

Gao climbed to Liang's fifth-floor office window and kept shouting, but police and his wife managed to talk him out of jumping.

Police investigation found that Gao hated Liang over work issues. It also found Gao had taken thousands of yuan in bribes, the report said.

The police have launched a criminal investigation into Gao, a procuratorate official disclosed to the Guangzhou Daily.
