Hangzhou bus arsonist sentenced to death
A Chinese man was sentenced to death on Thursday for setting a bus on fire on July 5 last year which left 33 injured in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province.
The man himself was also critically injured.
During a previous hearing, Bao Laixu pleaded guilty to arson by the city’s prosecutors for the July 5 incident. Bao said he did it to take revenge on society and end his own life because he had no money to treat his tuberculosis.
The man suffered extensive burns and had his two feet amputated. He remains in hospital along with two other bus fire victims.
Despite his injuries, the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court ruled he was fit to stand trial and could use a bed in court sessions.
