Hanzhong prison escapee captured

ONE of two prison escapees from Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, was arrested yesterday elsewhere in the province, China News Service reported.

Li Baohua, 37, was arrested in a shopping mall in Weinan City in the northwestern province. Li and Zhang Guoxian, 38, escaped on Sunday by sawing through a grille over a sewerage pipe.

The Henan Province natives then separated and Li climbed on a freight train to Chongqing Municipality, took a truck to Shiquan County and in Weinan tried to take a taxi without paying. He was recognized by the driver who reported him to police.

Hanzhong police had offered a reward of 100,000 yuan (US$14,620) for information leading to their capture.

Li was imprisoned for drug trafficking on September 5, 2007, while Zhang was jailed for robbery on March 9 of the same year, the report said.
