Headmaster detained in injury to 3-year-old boy

POLICE in Zhangzhou City of Fujian Province have detained a female kindergarten headmaster who grabbed and injured the penis of a three-year-old boy as punishment for bed-wetting, local media reported yesterday.
The headmaster, surnamed Ou, would be detained for 10 days for injuring others, officials said. Zhangzhou education authorities said they are checking the kindergarten to see if there are any other child abuse reports, Strait Metropolis Daily reported.
The boy's grandmother, surnamed Ruan, said that on the evening of May 21, she was surprised to hear the boy crying loudly and covering his private parts with his hands.
Ruan told the newspaper that she was even terrified to see the boy's penis had swollen to the size of a thumb. It appeared to be black, apparently from bruising.
"It hurt so much!" Ruan said the boy told her. "It was the elderly woman."
Ruan identified the "elderly woman" as Ou, headmaster of Nanmeng Kindergarten.
According to the newspaper, Ou told the family that the boy wet his bed when taking a nap at noon. The family said Ou told them, "He wet the entire bed but he was still lying on it, unwilling to get up."
The headmaster said she tried to scare the boy by warning that if he wet his bed again, she would cut off his penis and feed it to the pigeons. She then grabbed the boy's penis, Ruan told the newspaper.
Ou realized that she grabbed the boy too strongly when the boy's penis started turning black, the newspaper said. Another teacher used ointment on it, the report said.
Doctors told police that the boy had bruising on his penis, and it was bleeding from being forcefully grabbed. Doctors said that since the boy got medical treatment in time, the injury wouldn't cause lasting damage.
But the family feared the incident would traumatize the boy. They said that while he is gradually recovering, he still trembles often and screams from the pain of the injury.
