Headmaster sacked for school-day wedding
FOURTEEN headmasters have been punished after dismissing classes for one day to let teachers go to the wedding of a colleague's son, affecting 2,805 students in 13 schools in a southwestern China town.
The education authority of Hanbing District, Shaanxi Province's Ankang City, announced the penalty on December 31 after receiving complaints about the canceled classes, yesterday's Chinese Business View newspaper reported.
Principal Wu Fengzhou, of Guanjia Town Central School, held the wedding for his son on a workday, December 28. Wu had worked at many local schools, and many of his former colleagues asked for leave to attend the wedding.
So 13 of the 14 town schools dismissed classes that day.
Wu was removed from his position and received a stern warning, while heads of the 13 schools involved received demerit marks.
