Headmaster sacked over bullying row

THE headmaster of a primary school in east China’s Anhui Province has been removed from his post following claims that one of his pupils had been bullying classmates for the past four years.

The unnamed teacher has been transferred to another post and had his teaching license revoked, the Education Bureau of Huaiyuan County was cited as saying in a report by local newspaper Anhui Business.

The pupil accused of bullying — a sixth-grader identified only as J in the report — was a deputy class monitor at Huoxing Primary School who had authority from the headmaster to grade other students’ homework.

However, J used the position to extort money from other pupils. Those who refused to pay up were punished and had their workbooks torn to pieces, the report said.

Some alleged victims were made to drink urine and eat feces, it said.

Among them was a 12-year-old boy Xiao Qiang who stole from his parents to get several thousand yuan demanded by J over a period of four years, the report said.

The alleged bullying came to light last month after Xiao’s father convinced his son to tell him what was going on at school, it said.

The boy’s parents contacted the families of other alleged victims and took their story to the authorities, the report said.

Some claimed that the headmaster had called them to complain that their children had failed to hand in their homework when the parents had witnessed it being done the night before, it said.

The report was unable to contact J’s family to comment on the allegations.
