Health care disharmony
BARELY 6 percent of health personnel working in China who took part in a recent poll said doctor-patient relationships are "harmonious," Health News, a health ministry affiliated newspaper reported yesterday.
And 78 percent of interviewees complained of suffering above-average levels of stress at work, while 74 percent said they did not receive due respect or trust from the public.
In addition, 84 percent of interviewees viewed that the rewards they received for their work did not equate with their efforts.
Doctor-patient tension have been brewing for years in China. In an extreme case last September, a 43-year-old surgeon in Beijing Tongren Hospital was stabbed by a patient, causing serious injury.
The attack was believed to have been triggered by a medical dispute.
