Heart disease prison break fugitive recaptured

A PRISONER who escaped while receiving treatment for a heart problem in a northeast China hospital was caught yesterday – 14 days after his jailbreak.

Piao Yongjun, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for intentional injury in December 2009, was arrested in Jilin Province, Xinhua news agency reported today.

He was sent to No. 3 Hospital Affiliated to Shenyang Medical College in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, on October 14 due to an acute myocardial infarction and was supposed to undergo surgery.

While a prison guard escorted Piao to have an ultrasound on October 26, two men suddenly appeared and stunned the guard with a heavy blow. Piao's wife drove the getaway car.

He previously served time in Shenyang No. 2 Prison, a facility for major criminals with long jail terms.
