'Heartless' driver puts girl, 10, off bus

A driver who told a 10-year-old girl to get off his bus because she had no money has sparked an intense debate online.

The girl, Duoduo, wanted to take the No. 215 bus to home after she finished summer classes at 5:30pm on July 9 in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province. But she found her transportation card was short of money and she didn't have any cash with her. The driver told her to get off and she had to walk home, an hour's journey.

Many thought the driver heartless and had no regard for Duoduo's safety. Others said he shouldn't be blamed as he was just following the rules.

Zhang Jitao, associate professor of sociology at Hubei University said the driver could have been more flexible. For example, he could have taken the girl's information so that she could pay later.
