Hebei Province official sacked for slamming citizens at lavish feast

A TOWNSHIP official in north China's Hebei Province who was videotaped scorning and scolding citizens at a lavish banquet was removed from his position, local government officials announced today.
Video footage of the event was uploaded to the Internet on Friday night.
Liang Wenyong, Party chief of Guzishan Town, was among several officials recorded enjoying high-priced lobsters, high-end cigarettes and premium distilled spirits during the feast.
"With bowls of rice at hand and meat in their mouths, they (citizens) still abuse you with dirty words," Liang was videotaped saying at the table.
"Citizens show only such disgusting and shameful manners. We can't show respect to them because they have no sense of shame," he said.
Amid public anger over the pronouncements, the government of Xinglong County started an investigation, and confirmed the videotape's authenticity, China News Service reported.
The video was shot at a famous chain restaurant on May 20, when Zhang Taiming, director of the Banbishan County Taxation Bureau, was holding a private banquet, an initial investigation found.
Both Liang and Zhang were dismissed from their positions, the Chengde City publicity department said today.
An insider said Liang had offended a local company manager and a relative of the manager was at the meal and secretly videotaped the scene in revenge.
The investigation is continuing.
