Heritage site passes for quake donors
SHANGHAI donors who sent money to help earthquake-stricken Sichuan province will be offered free life passes to the ancient heritage site at Dujiangyan and to Qingcheng Mountain, one of the most famous Taoist mountains in China.
The Dujiangyan city authority will distribute 50,000 life passes to the two world cultural heritage sites to Shanghai donors who helped with the reconstruction of the hard-hit city after last May, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.
Individual and corporate donors can apply for the passes if they have receipts. Businesses that donated more than 10,000 yuan can apply for up to 20 passes and these will be distributed in mid July.
Government, NGOs, businesses and citizens from Shanghai have donated money, goods and participated in the reconstruction of Dujiangyan City. The State Council, or China's Cabinet, designated Shanghai to help with reconstruction work in Dujiangyan, home to more than 650,000 people.
The Shanghai government increased its 2008 budget last August to accommodate its 1.8-billion-yuan (US$263 million) contribution to reconstruction in Dujiangyan City, the first time the municipality has adjusted its budget.
Shanghai is expected to donate about 8 billion yuan to Dujiangyan through 2010.
