Heroin seized at airport

A FOREIGN traveler was detained for hiding 1,512 grams of heroin in dress buttons, said border security officers in central China's Hunan Province yesterday.

Officers became suspicious when they saw masses of buttons in the female traveler's luggage when her bags were scanned at 6:15pm on Sunday at Huanghua Airport in Changsha City, capital of Hunan. The officers opened the luggage, and found 18 dresses, each sown with 27 to 30 buttons, 2.5 centimeters in diameter. After prizing open one of the buttons, they saw it contained a plastic bag filled with white powder.

The officers found 1,512 grams of heroin in 491 buttons.

Investigation showed that the traveler had picked the drugs in Malaysia, and crossed to Hong Kong to take a plane to Changsha, from where she planned to go to south China's Guangzhou City to meet drug handlers.

After learning the two Guangzhou handlers' names, contact information and the delivery point, border defense officers and local police flew to Guangzhou, and arrested them on Monday.
