High-level petitions official commits suicide

The vice director of the State Bureau for Letters and Calls committed suicide in his office on Tuesday, caixin.com reported today.

The reason for Xu Ye’an’s suicide was not known, the report said.

As 59-year-old native of Wuhan, Xu worked at various levels of the country’s public complaints system for 32 years. He had reportedly been in poor health in recent months.

He was named vice director of the State Bureau for Letters and Calls in 2011.

Reports in November said Xu Jie, a deputy director of the State Bureau for Letter and Calls, was being investigated for serious discipline violations.
