High-pressure fountain severely injures boy
AN eight-year-old boy was seriously injured after his rectum was torn by a high-pressure fountain in east China’s Shandong Province, the Qilu Evening News reported.
The boy, who was in a semiconscious state but whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, was rushed to a hospital immediately after the accident for emergency surgery.
At around 8:30pm on Wednesday, witnesses saw several children playing above the pressurized water spout inside the fountain at a plaza in Changyi city. One boy in camouflage shorts was thrown down to the ground and was seriously injured by the water eruption.
The plaza was still under construction and the schedule for the fountain to spray wasn't yet set at a regular time. A notice was broadcast to tell those in the area about the coming spray several minutes before the eruption, according to a staff member of the plaza.
The boy was injured by pressurized water erupting from a spout 5 centimeters in diameter in the fountain. According to the local residents, the fountain sprays along with the music and the highest waterspout reaches up to 10 meters.
The fountain was still in use after the incident and no barriers had been erected. No similar cases had happened before at the fountain.
