High-speed train kills 2, injures 3

A HIGH-SPEED train traveling from Shanghai to Nanjing struck a group of rural workers near Wuxi yesterday killing two and injuring three.

The workers were walking along the Beijing-Shanghai railway line to go to lunch at around 11:44am when the train ran into them according to the Yangtse Evening Post report.


Two died at scene and the other three were rushed to local hospitals. One man, surnamed Jia from central Henan Province, is in a critical condition in the No. 101 hospital of the People's Liberation Army with broken chest, pelvis, arm and leg bones.

Another man surnamed Ma from Henan province is suffering head injuries. The third victim, surnamed Huang from Anhui Province, suffered lacerations to his face but was not seriously injured.

The train's schedule was not affected. The Shanghai Railway Bureau is investigating.
