Hired assassin kills official's rival
A FORMER transport chief in Hegang City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has confessed to police that he paid an assassin to kill his successor after several conflicts, police said yesterday.
The former official Bai Yuku paid 300,000 yuan (US$43,923) for the killing of Li Xingguang, the director of the city's transport bureau, said Shi Yanfang, city criminal police chief.
Bai confessed he had many complaints against Li who had opposed him many times in the appointment of officials, bidding for projects and other issues within the bureau. Bai believed his interests were threatened and made up his mind to get rid of Li, said Shi.
Li, 47, was stabbed to death on August 17 in front of his home in Hegang. Police had arrested four suspects before Bai was seized on Friday morning.
