Hit-and-run policeman arraigned for murder
A police officer in Gaizhou City, Liaoning Province will stand trial today for his hit-and-run crime that ended the life of a 16-year-old student, China Youth Daily reported.
The defendant, Zheng Ximing, former deputy director of Gaizhou Detention House, allegedly hit the boy student Jiang Xiaonan with his car on the morning of January 14. He brought the victim to another road and dumped him there before disappearing. Jiang was sent to the hospital an hour later and died after 11 days.
Zheng allegedly drove back to his office, changed blood-stained seat cushions and had his car fixed, pretending nothing had happened. But police detectives found Zheng was very suspicious and Zheng surrendered to police on January 29.
Local prosecutors charged Zheng of murder. Jiang's mother Wen Shuyan believed Zheng abandoned her injured son on another road to let other vehicles to run over him so as to cover up his crime.
