Holders of US visas to update information
FROM November, Chinese mainland citizens holding 10-year US visas will be required to have their personal information updated before they travel to the States, the US Consulate General in Shanghai announced yesterday.
An Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS), hosted at the website of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is under development.
Each “EVUS enrolment” will require travelers with a Chinese passport to provide name, birth date, home address, employment data and marital status among other information, according to US officials.
A “nominal fee” will be charged “to cover the cost of running the system” but the amount hasn’t yet been determined.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand government is working to speed up the processing of visa applications by Chinese tourists.
The request for quicker processing had come from the Chinese side, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said.
He also said work was under way on a flight agreement to bring more carriers to New Zealand.
Three Chinese airlines operate direct flights from Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou to Auckland while Air NZ operates daily Auckland-Shanghai and Hong Kong flights. More than 300,000 Chinese tourists flew to New Zealand last year, staying longer and spending more, according to the country’s tourism agency.
