Holiday extravagance to be punished
OFFICIALS who disregard the government’s call for thrift during the upcoming holidays will be named and shamed, the top supervision official said.
Huang Shuxian issued the warning during an online interview on Wednesday night.
Throughout the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, anti-graft bodies will closely monitor and supervise gift-giving and mooncake ceremonies, extravagant dinners paid for with public funds and bonuses paid to public sector workers, he said.
All discipline violations will be strictly punished and the names of the officials will be made known to the public, he said.
This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Monday, while the National Day holiday starts on October 1.
Huang said the working styles of Party and government officials has improved considerably as a result of the strengthened efforts by anti-graft watchdogs at all levels.
However, problems remain and the Ministry of Supervision is studying trends, and will present its ideas and suggestions on how to counter them in due course.
