Holiday flights are selling out quickly
Flight tickets on some popular routes just before the Spring Festival have almost been sold out as passengers are keen to get a discount by booking earlier, domestic carriers said yesterday.
Only first-class tickets remain on some routes like those departing from Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing to other provinces from January 28-31, according to Ctrip.com, a major online travel website.
Chinese New Year falls on January 31 next year and the holiday runs until February 5.
The Spring Festival rush is expected to start on January 17, Spring Airlines said.
China Southern Airlines yesterday announced it will add more flights from Shanghai to Wuhan in Hubei Province, Changsha in Hunan Province, and Shantou in Guangdong Province. Many migrant workers live in these cities and travel to their hometowns for China’s most important holiday of the year.
“More passengers booked tickets earlier this year because the cost can be several hundred yuan cheaper than those bought right before the departure date,” a press officer with Ctrip.com said.
Spring Airlines said a flight from Shanghai to Chengdu in Sichuan Province can now be purchased for 340 yuan but will cost 1,130 yuan on Chinese New Year’s Eve.
