Home razed as owner was away for 2 hours
A MAN in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, went out for just two hours on the morning of November 27 and returned to find his residence had been demolished. He now has to live in the bathroom of the house, which was the only room that survived the demolition.
Ren Ping, who lives with his daughter in Ehu Town of Wuxi City, still doesn't know who demolished his home, Modern Express reported yesterday.
"I went out at 8am," said Ren. "When I returned about 10am, I found my house had been demolished." He reported it to police immediately, who have started investigating.
Ren has sent his daughter to a relative's home, and he has to stay in the bathroom now. "I put some boards on the bathtub to function as a bed."
Ren's residence was rented from the housing administration of Ehu Town. Last year, they tried to persuade him to relocate due to town restructuring. However, he stayed on as the decorating at the new house he was offered had not been completed.
"We have emphasized to the demolition company that they mustn't force residents to move out aggressively," says Yu Jianming, the town's deputy director, who is in charge of the demolition and relocation project.
Qian Bin, vice Party chief of the town, has said the housing administration should compensate Ren for any economic losses, the report said.
