Homeless brothers try suicide, one succeeds
TWO homeless brothers in southwest China's Yunnan Province stabbed themselves yesterday, trying to commit suicide because, as the one survivor said, life was too hard.
Jiang Zuwei and his brother were found on Sunday, lying in a blood-flooded, 1-square-meter storage house in the provincial capital Kunming City where they spent every night on filthy quilts stuffed with rubbish, the Yunnan Info Daily reported yesterday.
Doctors said the brothers were sent to the hospital about nine hours after they stabbed themselves. Jiang's brother died soon while Jiang survived.
A resident in the apartment building which the two took as their home said she knew the brothers from long ago. They found food in garbage while they earned some money from garbage selling, she said.
Jiang told the newspaper that he and his brother decided to end their miserable lives after being so long tortured by the idea that they were the scum of the society.
He had no idea that his little brother died and asked for a cigarette after waking up from the coma.
Local police said Jiang's brother was a drug addict and stabbed himself four times in the belly.
Jiang's doctor surnamed Yang also suspected that Jiang himself had also been using drugs for a long time. He was too weak to even raise his arms. Yang said they will transfer Jiang to an asylum after he healed.
