Hoping to fly, boy falls eight stories

A FOUR-year-old boy survived an eight-story fall after trying to fly like his favorite Japanese cartoon hero, Ultraman.

The boy in central China's Wuhan City is in hospital with back bruises and collapsed lungs, but in good condition, Wuhan Evening News reported yesterday.

A neighbor said she was shocked when she saw the little boy falling down.

The boy's mother, surnamed Wang, said he had always been a headache for his parents and teachers because of his whimsical strange ideas that he often put into practice.

Wang said her son loved to watch the Japanese cartoon Ultraman and always murmured about getting a pair of wings and flying like an Ultraman himself. He jumped holding his new toy, a yoga ball, which might have been the life-saver.

The ball hit the ground first and cushioned the blow for the boy. His fall might also have been impeded by a canopy on the sixth floor, the report said.
