Hospital advertises abortion with porn magazine
A hospital in Shijiazhuang, a city in north China's Hebei Province, is under police investigation for distributing a vulgar magazine on university campus and luring students to undergo abortion surgery.
The Shijiazhuang Red Cross Hospital has been ordered to stop distributing abortion ads, but the hospital defended its practice, saying it was "guiding young people to do the right thing."
The magazine, Sound of Angles, contains pornographic stories and ads promoting cheap and painless abortion and hymen repair surgery. The hospital hired university students to hand out the magazine on their campus, the Beijing News reported today.
The porn stories entice students to indulge in sexual pleasure and go to the hospital for abortion at a low price, said Zhang Shu, a volunteer who is retrieving copies of the hospital-published magazine for destruction.
Li Huan, a local college student, admitted that he was influence by the magazine and didn't take any contraceptive measure when having sex with his girlfriend. Later, they spent thousands of yuan on abortion surgery, instead of 480 yuan (US$75) as advertised in the magazine. He told the newspaper that the surgery even didn't remove the whole fetus.
