Hospital sued over missing stomach
A MAN is seeking 930,000 yuan (US$136,242) in compensation from a central China hospital which removed nearly all his stomach without telling him.
The operation allegedly resulted in severe anemia due to malnutrition and led to the man being bedridden for 14 years, www.dahe.com reported yesterday.
Ruyang County People's Court in Henan Province's Luoyang yesterday accepted the suit filed by Liu Fengtao.
Liu was diagnosed with a gastric ulcer that could lead to stomach cancer by Ruyang County People's Hospital in September 1996, when he was a 17-year-old student.
His doctor, Zhang Wuxuan who is denying negligence, told him he would have about a third of his stomach removed, Liu said.
In 2002, Liu's health deteriorated and he was sent to another hospital that found most of his stomach missing.
