Hospital volunteer dies in road accident

A QUAKE-RELIEF volunteer in Yushu, a Tibetan autonomous prefecture in northwestern China's Qinghai Province, died in a road accident on Friday, local authorities said on Saturday.

Zhang Jianhua, 41, died when the pick-up he was traveling in rolled in heavy snow in Madoi County in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Golog, said Yi Fuchun, vice president of Xinghua Hospital in Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province.

Zhang, a logistics officer at the hospital, was in charge of logistic for Xinghua Hospital's medical team to Yushu.

Zhang's colleague Ma Xianwei, an anesthetist from the same hospital, was injured in the crash and was being treated at the Qinghai People's Hospital.

The medical team had rented the pick-up in Gyegu town, the epicenter of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake of April 14, and left at 6am. Police said the accident happened about eight hours later.
