Hostage-taker killed in Beijing subway station
A MAN was shot and killed by police while he was holding a female subway security officer hostage at knifepoint at Hujialou Station of Metro Line 10 in Beijing yesterday evening and the hostage was saved, local police said.
For reasons that are unknown at present, the unnamed man grabbed a female security officer who was standing near a ticketing machine at Hujialou Station around 9pm yesterday, Beijing police said.
Bystanders tried to persuade the man to release the woman, but the he refused and even threatened to kill her.
Police went to the scene at around 10:20pm and evacuated the bystanders. They asked a negotiator to persuade the suspect to give himself up. After 70 minutes of negotiations, the suspect hadn't released the hostage and even injured her with the knife. The police then shot and killed the man and the hostage was saved.
The identity of the suspect is being verified and the investigation of the case is ongoing.
