'House brother' joins 'house sister'
A SENIOR anti-corruption official in Mudanjiang City of Heilongjiang Province has been dubbed the "house brother" after he and his wife were reported to have 15 properties registered under their names.
Meanwhile, police are still hunting "house sister," a woman called Gong Ai'ai said to have used four residence permits to buy 41 properties in Beijing.
The latest member of the "house" family is Zhang Xiuting, an official with the anti-corruption bureau in Mudanjiang's Xi'an District. A whistleblower claimed he owned 17 properties.
The Southern Metropolis Daily found 15 of the properties listed by the whistleblower registered under the names of Zhang and his wife, Wang Hongjun.
They included apartments, shops and garages with the largest more than 1,040 square meters, the report said.
However, Zhang told the newspaper he was divorced and most of the properties were owned by his ex-wife.
Zhang said he had worked with local disciplinary watchdogs on a recent case involving an officer of a local court and he believed the officer wanted to take revenge by publishing the property details. However, the whistleblower denied that account, the newspaper said.
Zhang said local watchdogs had carried out an investigation into his properties that had taken more than six months. He was not punished after the investigation.
In another case, Yang Liping, vice president of Shenmu Rural Commercial Bank, was reported to own 12 properties in central Beijing under his wife's name.
Yang was a colleague of Gong, the "house sister."
Yang's wife, Gao Yin'e, had three identities and hukou which were used to purchase properties, the newspaper said.
Last Friday, police said they had detained seven people suspected of helping Gong obtain fake registration certificates.
The Ministry of Public Security said it had launched a campaign in the identity and hukou administrative system to flush out fake identity records.
