'House sister' held by police over fake IDs
The woman, dubbed "House Sister" for owning 41 properties in Beijing and having multiple residence permits and citizen ID cards, has been detained by police, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
Gong Aiai, a rural bank chief in Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province, has been in police custody since January 27 in the province's Yulin City and official investigation is ongoing, Xinhua said.
Police say the woman forged government documents and stamps to evade home purchase restrictions and bought a large number of apartments in Beijing and other places.
Gong was confirmed to have two citizen ID cards and four permanent residence permits in obvious violation of the Chinese law which forbids citizens to have more than one ID card and residence permit to prevent people from evading taxes and home purchase restrictions.
At least seven people, including four police officers, have been detained for helping Gong obtain residence permits illegally.
Last month, an online whistleblower revealed that Gong hoarded 20 properties in Beijing, using different IDs with the names of Gong Aiai and Gong Xianxia. Later Beijing police found 21 more properties under her names.
Investigators found Gong had quit her job as deputy general manager of her bank last June to run her family business. The board approved her resignation only last month.
