How China's fishermen keep in touch with home
CHINA'S Beidou navigation satellite system has grown in popularity with fishermen, with nearly 70,000 using its short message service.
Many use it to communicate with their families and friends for free, Ran Chengqi, director of the system's management office, told a seminar in Guangzhou earlier this week.
The system has also provided services related to navigation, vessel monitoring and emergency rescues since it went into operation in China and surrounding areas last December.
