How far will money go?
Mo Yan, known for hallucinatory realism, has to be realistic on how to spend the 7.5 million yuan (US$1.2 million) Nobel Prize.
Mo said after he learned of winning the Nobel Literature Award, he was planning to "buy an apartment in Beijing, and a large one."
But someone reminded him that he will have to do with a smaller one since homes sell for more than 50,000 yuan per square meter in Beijing. That will allow him only about 120 square meters.
Mo doesn't have to pay income tax on the prize.
