Hu says healthy, stable Sino-US trade ties serve both interests
CHINESE President Hu Jintao said today that healthy and stable economic and trade relations between China and the United States serve the interests of both countries.
Hu made the remarks when talking with US President Barack Obama during a phone conversation.
As uncertainties still remain in the global economic recovery, both China and the United States face the task of boosting the economic recovery and maintaining stable economic development, he said.
The Chinese president hopes that both sides could settle their trade disputes through dialogue and consultation.
Obama said his country understands the challenges that China is facing in its economic development, and both countries should continue to make efforts to address major concerns and achieve the global economic recovery and balanced development.
The positive, cooperative and comprehensive relations between the United States and China are important for both countries and the world, he added.
Properly handling the Taiwan and Tibet issues, which concern China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and represent China's core interests,is key to the Sino-US relations, President Hu said.
China attaches great importance to the issue of nuclear security, opposing nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism, and supporting the international efforts to enhance cooperation on nuclear security, he said.
Hu also said China is willing to work closely with the United States and other sides concerned so as to make sure that the upcoming April 12-13 Nuclear Security Summit in Washington is successful and fruitful.
