Hubei police find 12,033 artillery shells in truck

A container truck loaded with 12,033 artillery shells in 236 boxes was discovered and seized by police on April 1 in a service area on Highway G50 in central Hubei Province.
Police in Lichuan City found the deadly ammunition, weighing more than 10 tons, in a night check. The truck was driving from Chongqing in western China to Jilin Province in northeastern China.
The unnamed driver said a Chongqing company hired him to transport the goods to Jilin but he insisted that he didn't know what was loaded, the Enshi Evening Post reported today.
The case is still under investigation, the police said.
