Huge crowd of petitioners air grievances outside CCTV
MORE than 1,000 petitioners gathered outside the headquarters of China Central Television (CCTV) in downtown Beijing this morning to air grievances on different issues and seek media help.
Police officers were dispatched to disperse the petitioners and no clashes were reported.
Witnesses said the petitioners did not shout slogans or unfurl banners. They intended to submit letters of complaints to CCTV staff but were stopped by police officers.
A police spokesman said in recent years petitioners always went to CCTV to voice their grievances on December 4, as the date marks the "National Law Awareness Day" in the country.
Today's gathering lasted from 8 am to 10 am.
