Huge waves injure 30 tide-watchers
A LARGE wave injured more than 30 people watching the churned-up Qiantang River yesterday in Haining in east China’s Zhejiang Province, a local news portal reported today.
Influenced by Typhoon Trami, waves reached an estimated 30 meters at 1pm yesterday at Laoyangcang, one of the best tide-viewing spots in Haining, the report said.
Many watchers were struck by water, and ambulances arrived to carry the injured to nearby hospitals.
“The tide is so spectacular, and I just think of the word ‘horrible’ to describe it,” said a netizen on a microblog.
The viewing spot will be closed for three days to repair destroyed railing, said the report.
Each year around this time, tens of thousands of people go to watch the tide. Tourists are warned not to venture into dangerous areas for tide-watching.
