Human error blamed for MA60 landing accident

Human error was behind the accident involving a China-built MA60 passenger aircraft that veered off the runway and injured seven passengers yesterday in Fujian Province, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said today.

There was no evidence to show a mechanical failure on the plane belonging to Joyair, the investigation team said after analyzing the aircraft’s flight data.

“Our preliminary investigation showed the accident was caused by human error,” the administration said.

Seven passengers were injured in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, when the plane landed. The plane had 45 passengers and seven crew on board.

The 60-seater MA60 has had three incidents caused by landing gear problems within a year.

In February 2014, a MA60 touched the ground with its nose after its landing gear failed to drop in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Later that month a MA60 belonging to Okay Airways circled above an airport for over 2 hours before landing because the landing gear cannot be dropped.

The administration grounded all MA60 aircraft in February 2014 for 30 days to inspect the planes. Carriers were asked to change the lock systems on the landing gear to ensure they operate smoothly, an official with the administration said.
