Hunan police raid drug den

HUNAN Province police raided a drug den and caught 134 suspects, it announced yesterday.

The den was hidden in a private club in Chasha city, Xinhua News Agency reported today.

The club only accepts frequent clients. It has regular karaoke rooms for authorities to check but it also had special rooms downstairs for clients to take drugs, the report said.

Visitors can enter the special rooms only after security guards open the doors with a swipe card. The club had cameras Monitoring cameras were installed in every corner of the club and emeregency exits so guest could flee in a raid, according to the report.

One room usually cost 5,800 yuan (US$853) a night but guests usually spent dozens of thousand yuan, police said.

The club spent more than 4 million yuan to decorate those rooms, which can hold several hundred people at.

The clubs? operators paid close attention to police crackdowns and made daily decisions whether to open the rooms for business, the report said.

Police investigated the den for more than 40 days after receiving public tips and sent 160 policemen on the raid.

Drugs including ecstasy were also seized.
