Hunt for student who ‘killed mother’

POLICE are hunting for a 22-year-old Peking University student suspected of killing his mother, The Beijing News reported yesterday.

According to police, the victim, Xie Tianqin, was found dead in her room in the teachers’ residence of a secondary school in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on February 14.

Fuzhou police say the suspect, Wu Xieyu, placed his mother’s body on her bed and wrapped it with a plastic sheet, putting some activated carbon fabric inside to absorb decomposition odors. He also installed surveillance cameras in the room so he could monitor it via his computer.

After his mother’s death, Wu applied for a loan under her name, police said.

Fuzhou police have offered a reward of 30,000 yuan (US$4,602) for information about his whereabouts.
