Husband sentenced to death

A MAN who shot six people dead and wounded another three in revenge for his wife’s infidelity was sentenced to death yesterday, officials in southwestern China’s Yunnan Province said.

Shao Zongqi, 38, a native of Baoshan City, was accused of murder and illegally owning a rifle, the city government announced.

The city’s intermediate court heard that Shao found out in September 2012 that his wife, Liu Benhong, was having affairs with two men from the same village, Shao Zonghua and Shao Zongping.

He bought a semi-automatic rifle and 70 bullets in August 2013, preparing to seek revenge.

On January 30, the eve of Chinese New Year, Shao forced his way into the two men’s homes and shot dead six people, including Zongping’s entire family of four, Zonghua’s father and Zonghua’s wife. Zonghua, his son and his mother were injured.

Shao was caught by police on February 3.

He was stripped of his political rights, and ordered to pay compensation of 506,000 yuan (US$82,164) and 98,000 yuan respectively for the two families.
