‘I just shot them as fast as I could’

Just one police officer shot four terror suspects dead and wounded a fifth within seconds on Saturday night.

Zhang Jun (not his real name), a member of the Kunming SWAT squad, said he saw five people attacking with knives when he arrived at the city’s railway station.

“Put down your knives!” he shouted as he fired into the air, yesterday’s Legal Daily newspaper reported.

Hearing the gunshot, the five suspects turned and rushed at Zhang, who fired a second warning shot.

“The closest one was only two meters away from me. Had I hesitated for another second, it would have been me who was hit down,” Zhang said.

His first shot wounded a woman wearing a veil.

“The other four were not awed. They were still waving their knives and rushing toward me,” Zhang said. “I didn’t have time to think. I just shot them as fast as I could.”
