ID card required to buy knife in Guangzhou
RESIDENTS in the south China city of Guangzhou have been told to register their personal information with ID cards when buying any type of knives as local authorities beefed up security ahead of the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou from November 12 to 27.
Buyers are required to show valid proof of identification and register their name, address, ID number, type and number of knives purchased. The information will be sent to local police.
Besides, people are only allowed to purchase kitchen knives and large-sized cutting tools at designated shops, reported today's Guangzhou Daily.
Shops are banned from selling any knife to anyone suffering mental illness or under the age of 18.
Residents are told to wrap dangerous knives in public areas or face up to 100 yuan (US$15) fine if they fail to do so.
These safety measures will be enforced one month before the 2010 Asian Games.
